Salon Instruments
I had a chance to pamper myself a bit yesterday. I had a low-cost foot spa over at this place nearby.
That was probably the first pedicure where I got hurt. You know when they try to remove those thingies to prevent in-grown churky? Well, it hurt. It bled, in fact. She put antiseptic prior to putting nail polish and it hurt more. But I'm a girl scout and it was all ok. But when I took a shower last night, it hurt again.
But the point isn't really about being hurt, but cleanliness (hygiene) and safety in terms of the cleaning instruments they use over at that salon. I actually didn't want to go back there anymore because I found that as time went by, the quality of their work went down. It was like, they weren't raising their fees but they were cutting on some of the services. And that just plain sucks.
Anyhoo, I had to go there because my callouses were so think, hehe. And I didn't have budget for the other places I go to, near work. And since I had a long weekend, I decided it was probably the best time to go.
So again, it got me wondering: are there any salons in the Metro Manila area that actually sterilized all their cleaning instruments after every client? I saw it, I think on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy once before, where they opened a sterile pack right before your eyes when you go there for servicing.
Well, none of the three places I go to do that. Or does a client have to ask for it?
Anyway, I demand sterile instruments be used when I go for a cleaning! I mean, fungus would be nasty, and I sure as hell wouldn't want any puncture wounds I get there to become infected. And the towels they use, I swear, they just don't feel clean enough, at times. So yesterday would probably be the last time I'd be going there. At least the towels, and the comfy chairs in the two other places, are worth the pricetag. And the massage too. Plus the complimentary drinks.
On a related matter, my mom and I (and most of the people around here) have this trusted lady doing our manicure and pedicure regularly. Her stuff is usually clean, but I doubt if she sterilizes them regularly. Which got us to thinking that we probably should buy our own stuff and have her use that on us.
Back to the more important question: why aren't there salons in the Philippines that use sterilized instruments for each customer? If there are any, please point me to their direction.
